HAND-GRASPING
ASSISTIVE DEVICE

Hand-grasping assistive device prototype

As an Engineering Intern with the Rice Emerging Scholars Program, I led the design and prototyping of a hand-grasping assistive device intended to help restore grasping function for users with limited hand mobility.

The work progressed through successive fidelity levels — starting with low-fidelity mockups to validate the core grasping mechanism and range of motion, then moving to mid-fidelity prototypes that could be evaluated more rigorously for fit, actuation, and usability.

It was my first project where the design constraints came from a real person's physical needs rather than a competition rule sheet or a spec document — a useful reminder that a mechanism is only as good as its fit to the person using it.
